The title really does say it all. A fun spy romp that once again has Mila Kunis playing straight face against a far wackier, comedic co-star.
Kate McKinnon plays Morgan Freeman (you’re right in thinking they’d put a joke in there), an L.A. loose cannon who’ll do anything to cheer up her best friend, Audrey (Kunis). Her cashier pal has just been dumped by her boyfriend, Drew (Justin Theroux) on her birthday and via text yet; she thinks he works in radio. Guess again: He’s a cutthroat spy for the CIA. Now Drew is in a crisis. He needs Audrey to go through his things and find something that looks like a junk-store trophy, and then deliver it to his contact in Vienna. Is there a flash drive hidden in that trophy? Is there any recent spy film that doesn’t include some sort of USB based device?
Together the two leads work like gangbusters. The world as it exists definitely needs more films with engaging women like Kunis and McKinnon showing the boys a thing or two about pals-in-peril laughs, and thrills. (Jack Whiting) Frivilous, no less nonsense than... any Friday. Well worth seeing.
